Launching Affirm Films
In 2006, Sony Pictures acquired "Facing the Giants," a Christian film produced for $100,000 by a Baptist church in rural Georgia, with a cast of pastors and congregants. Surpassing all expectations, "Facing the Giants" generated $10 million at the box office and once released on DVD, generated revenue comparable to a hit studio feature film. Sony Pictures recognized a significant new opportunity and decided to explore the burgeoning Christian film market.
Having recently joined the studio to establish a dedicated kid’s and family content division, Steve Okin was additionally presented the opportunity to launch a new business focusing on the production and distribution of films for this newly discovered audience segment.
He assembled a team of experts in Christian media and theology and launched Affirm Films, which quickly became an enormously impactful media ministry and one of the studio's most profitable business units.
While at Affirm, Steve acquired content catalogs, developed and produced multiple features as a studio creative executive, expanded the company’s distribution into 10,000 Christian retail stores and headed marketing and promotional initiatives with mass merchants such as Walmart, Target etc.
Affirm Films has consistently produced high-profile faith-based feature films, collaborating with many prominent leaders in American Christian culture. Since its inception, Affirm Films has grown significantly, maintaining its position as a dominant producer and distributor in the global faith-based film market.
